Monday Musings ...
Apparently, today is National 'Tidy your Desk Day'. Hmm ... I always start with good intentions; sorting paperwork into 'shred', 'file' & 'deal with' piles before stopping for a rewarding coffee ahead of tackling the actually shredding, filing and dealing-with stages. And that's where the whole plan falls apart, because a) I convince myself that the piles look pretty neat like that anyway and b) I have far more important (ie interesting) things to do
right now ... like unload the washing machine so my jods are dry for tomorrow ... or write a blog post. Oh well - there's always next year!
Although I've worked from home as a freelance since well, forever, I still battle with not getting sidetracked by house stuff. I know several people who actually dress office-smart, even if that office is like mine: in the dining room. I half do that if I have a Zoom call booked but when I say 'half' I simply mean the top half. The bottom half is still in yard jeans although I leave my wellies at the door. I do have some standards ... 😎 This afternoon is my 3rd session taking part in the 'Export Academy' series of webinars put together by the Department for International Trade. I've had some enquiries for byHiggins products from NZ, Denmark, Netherlands and the USA - it's all very exciting but I really don't know anything about how to look at trading in another country, so this is timely for me.
One of the challenges of being a sole trader is trying to get your head around everything! Social media, accounts, shipping, packaging, marketing etc so it's nice to have met some lovely people in the process of setting up and running things in the form of the Small and Supercharged groups, created and run by @rheafreemanpr Absolute life-and-head-saver. If you ever think of setting up a rural-related business, I can highly recommend both the groups and Rhea.
