The best laid plans ...

As the sun came out this morning as I was about to package up a matching purple pair of Lick Safe and Halter Hangar Lite for a customer in Lincolnshire, I thought I'd try a quick arty-farty photo in front of the heather bed here at byHiggins HQ, as the gorgeous lavender-coloured flowers are just starting to open. (We've had a HUGE bumble bee on them already this week!)

Suddenly, Padwa marches into shot, determined to prove that her presence will improve whatever I had planned. She's probably quite correct, but I kind of wanted the focus to be on my products, not on a nutty Bengal however beautiful she is ...

Hey ho! Anyway - I hope Lucy enjoys them and that she doesn't find either paw-marks on that Lick Safe or a spotted, stripey cat in the parcel 🤣

Thinking of plans, what are yours for the weekend? Limited options at the moment I know but ... The forecast isn't that good for Saturday so I'm desperately trying to think of something that means I'm not faced with doing some housework.

Mucking out, I get. It's fine, and I'm happy to do it every day. I can stand back afterwards, look at the neat shavings, the freshly drawn buckets of well-water - which the horses seem to absolutely love! - the pile of haylage in the corner, night rug neatly folded ready to pop on etc etc and know that it's a job well done. It makes me happy.

Now, if I could just translate that feeling to ironing, loading the dishwasher, cleaning out the airing cupboard etc that would be ruddy marvellous! Whatever you end up doing this weekend, I hope it's a happy and peaceful one and remember - nearly half of January's out of the way already. 😉

My name's Kate and I'm a life-long horse owner of the DIY variety.

The idea for the Halter Hangars and the Lick Safe are had been floating around my head for a few years before I took the plunge and stated to turn ideas into reality. I started with the Hangars, as I was thoroughly fed up with wet head collars and losing hoof-picks in the long grass by my field gate. And then when I saw how successful the hood-shape was at keeping out the rain, I developed the Lick Safe ...
